The Track Rack begins the day facing west. As the sun rises, it heats the west-side canister, forcing liquid into the shaded east-side canister. This liquid flows through a copper tube to the east-side canister, causing the tracker to rotate to the east.

Aluminum shadow plates direct the heating of the liquid. Vapor pressure increases as a canister is exposed to the sun.  This forces liquid into the cooler, shaded side. The shifting weight of the liquid causes the rack to rotate until the canisters are equally shaded.

The rack follows as the sun moves, constantly seeking to balance each side as the liquid moves.

The rack, facing west by day’s end, remains in this position until the next morning’s sun starts the process again.
